CoZ Entry #008 – Alyssa Enrilé

Hey, we haven’t seen a college student Ranger yet, right? They’ve all been high schoolers or presumed drop-outs. Does prep school count as college? I don’t think it does. I’ve never been. I actually just needed an opening blurb so here it is. And here’s Alyssa.

PROFILE

Alyssa was the second Ranger to be recruited to the Wild Force team. As the White Ranger, she was the guardian of the White Tiger Wildzord. She often acted as the RangerMom™, squashing beefs between her teammates and making them breakfast. Early on, she had a habit of mediating Taylor and Cole’s arguments. Between all of this and taking classes at Turtle Cove University, Alyssa kept herself rather busy.

she also rides a bike like some kinda dork

On an archaeological dig for her class, Alyssa stumbled upon a strange artifact that she believed to be related to the Animarium. She was escorting Princess Shayla to the cave, but they were intercepted by the Tire Org. The Org kidnapped the Princess and took off. He proved too fast for the Ranger so, conveniently, their Wild Zords gifted them with Savage Cycles to keep up. Alyssa was able to slow the monster down by… riding her bike on top of it. Well, it worked, and they retrieved the Princess.

this feels like overkill

Sadly, Shayla gets swooped up by Jindrax and Toxica and brought before Master Org, who has discovered the same animal artifact that Alyssa found before. He tried to force the Princess to unlock the animal inside it, but the Elephant Wild Zord chose Alyssa. They utilized his power with the Megazord to destroy the Tire Org.

The evil wolf beast Zen-Aku came back from a deep sleep and gave the Rangers a proper beating. He took Alyssa’s Elephant Zord crystal and froze it, taking it out of commission. Overwhelmed with guilt, she went off on her own to track down the evil Wolf Org and retrieve it from him. Jindrax and Toxica get to her first and knock her out cold. Zen-Aku then found her by the river and wrapped her wounds. This was suspiciously kind for the same guy who busted their asses the night before. When Zen-Aku was destroyed, the Lunar Wolf Ranger Merrick was freed and the Elephant Zord returned to its rightful guardian.

he’s secretly a good guy but like at this precise moment that hadn’t been conveyed very well so this whole scene is weird

Alyssa assisted Cole in his quest to uncover the fate of his parents by utilizing her school’s library. In the process, they were interrupted by an Org attack that left Cole with no memory. She eventually returned to recover the printed newspaper article and discovered the tragic death of Cole’s family. She tried to tell the other Rangers that he may be better off without his memory, but Taylor convinced the team that they needed Cole, despite him being happy working on a farm blissfully unaware of any misfortunes in his past. He learned the truth, and it was all Alyssa’s fault for being a bummer.

way to go Alyssa bringing the whole mood down

Alyssa’s teammates started to notice how adept she was at martial arts. She reveals that her dad was some sort of kung fu master who taught her everything she knows. She was disappointed that she wanted to attend university and, you know, equip herself with an education to guarantee a better future for herself. It’s unfortunate that she couldn’t just bank on her martial arts skill to get her through the rest of her life. Regardless, he eventually gave her his blessing, albeit reluctantly. She agreed to meet her dad at a specific time but failed to show up due to an Org attack. This disappointed him yet again, but then he saw her use her family’s fighting style to kick the Samurai Org’s ass so everything was okay.

you have dishonored our family by being a college student

After the defeat of Master Org and his cronies, Alyssa retired from her Ranger duties. She finished up her college studies and went on to become a teacher. She told the story of the Animarium and the Wild Force Rangers to her kindergarten students in a way that made it seem like a fairy tale. They were probably alive to experience the whole thing and it would have been pretty hard to avoid. Whatever.

SUGGESTED VIEWING

I like Secrets and Lies. Really not because of Alyssa. It’s just a good episode with emotions and stuff.

RANKING

Alyssa exists. She doesn’t get much spotlight. She’s charming and energetic and makes a good background Ranger. I’d put her below Chad by a small margin, my main reasoning being that Chad’s “disappointed father” episode wasn’t incredibly boring like Alyssa’s. Thus, Alyssa has become our new number 8 on the Children of Zordon.

Curious where your favorite Rangers stand on the list? Check it out. Make sure you follow Children of Zordon on Twitter so that you don’t miss out on these sweet, sweet write-ups. You could also follow no context power rangers, which often contains screencaps of episodes that I watch during the making of this quality content.

Tune in next Monday (probably) when we dive into some more daddy issues with S.P.D.’s Sky Tate.
